County Poetry Slam Competition

This year, on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 in the Roy Edwards Room at the Education Center, the County Poetry Slam Competition will take place. This event allows schools to enter as a group, or send select students, to compete against other students, highlighting and showcasing their Spoken Word poem or ‘Rant’. This competition allows both groups and individuals so get creative!  To kick off this event, Wali Shah will be visiting Cundles Heights PS on Thursday, March 30th, 2017 for a keynote presentation. In this keynote session, Wali will tell his story, of his troubled childhood, and how RAP music and spoken word helped him to change his life.

Selected as one of Canada’s Top 20 Under 20 in 2014,  Wali Shah is a highly acclaimed Canadian speaker and poet. He is also currently a student at the University of Toronto. Wali combines social issues, experiences, comedy, and his South Asian and Muslim background to bring his work to life.

From featuring on MTV with Selena Gomez, being a TEDx speaker, performing at the Air Canada Centre, and even freestyling with Kendrick Lamar — Wali has inspired countless people through his work as an Artist and Educator. www.walifloshah.com

In preparation for this County Poetry Slam Competition on May 2, 2017, Wali Shah has agreed to share this keynote presentation on http://www.scdsblive.ca/ The keynote event will be live on Thursday, March 30th, 2017 at 9:15 am and should last approximately 40 – 50 minutes.
